BEVERLY HILLS DIET

The New Beverly Hills Diet is the dieting project of Hollywood actress , Judy Mazel This is a food-combination diet, meaning that certain food types are not to be ingested together, such as protein and carbohydrates. This is great for the person who wants to lose weight healthily and can be mindful of what food combinations are being eaten. There is a food combination chart that indicates what foods are appropriately combined with other foods.

Foods Emphasized: Vegetables, grains, fruits, grains, meat, fish, yogurt, cheese, nuts, oil, mayonnaise, butter, cereals

Foods Restricted: Diet products, artificial sugar substitutes, combined proteins with carbohydrates

Premise and Guidelines: The Beverly Hills diet can be somewhat confusing because it was created by an actress who did not have a nutrition or science background. As we mentioned earlier, the dieter who follows this plan will need to be very mindful of the different food combinations involved in meals. There are some complicated guidelines to eating while on this diet.

While, this diet is nonrestrictive, only certain foods may be ingested together. The premise behind this plan is that certain foods are digested by the body using different mechanisms and eating some foods together results in poor digestion or an inability to digest one or more of the foods. The theory is that poor digestion leads to weight gain when the body is not able to properly digest or dispose of the food materials. By separating certain types of foods, such as proteins and carbohydrates, the body will be able to digest foods more efficiently. This 35-day diet follows this plan:

  • Protein can only be consumed with other sources of protein, not carbohydrates.
  • Never combine eating fruit with other foods.
  • Start each day with a rich enzymatic fruit like pineapple, strawberries, grapes, papaya, watermelon or mango. Fruit salads are discouraged, since certain types of fruits shouldn’t be mixed.
  • Wait at least one hour before consuming another fruit and two hours before eating types of foods.
  • Once food is eaten from another food group, more fruit cannot be consumed again for the rest of the day.
  • Post-fruit consumption, if the next food group is carbohydrates, you may eat unlimited amounts until you consume protein.
  • Carbohydrates should not be eaten together with protein.
  • Fats may be eaten with protein or carbs, but not in combination with fruits.
  • Eliminate all light or diet labeled foods and artificial sugar replacements

To follow this program properly, the dieter must plan and be aware of food categories. It would seem that the average person would have trouble following this correctly. No wonder it was developed by an actress- only they would have time or staff to help manage the diet!
