BOB GREENE
If Bob Greene sounds familiar, it’s probably because he is a favorite of Oprah Winfrey and has been on her show countless times. Bob Greene's Total Body Makeover originated in 1996 with the authoring of his first weight-loss book. He became the personal trainer to Oprah Winfrey, and his popularity soared after successfully helping Oprah Winfrey lose weight on national television. Greene’s plan is a balanced diet that focuses on emotional motivations for eating and weight gain. Because there is limited food restriction, exercise is greatly emphasized in this diet.
Foods Encouraged: Almost all foods in moderation
Foods Discouraged: Portion sizes and restricted food choices
Premise and Guidelines: This diet tends to appeal to first-time dieters because of the balanced approach, fitness inclusion, and the attention toward emotional eating. Bob encourages us to “Get with the program!” and not be afraid to make yourself over. He explains nutrition and fitness basics simply with a balanced plan that is not portion-restrictive and does not eliminate one food group over another. Bob does want the dieter to be conscious of why they are eating and what they're eating to possess a healthier attitude about food. Mindful eating is one of the keys to weight-loss in the plan. Exercise is strongly encouraged, and dieters mayeat what they like, but should only eat when they are truly hungry.
Greene created a four-phase plan that all dieters must undergo to better understand their eating habits. Additionally, dieters are even given homework assignments on a regular basis. they are encouraged to write down their weight loss goals, and even write an entire essay about losing weight! This phase is meant to solidify the commitment to the weight-loss plan and focus on how attitude can affect health and eating habits.
Oprah has been Greene’s biggest fan as she promoted Greene and his weight loss book, and often had him on her show as a guest. We know that Oprah has famously struggled with her weight, and although it has fluctuated slightly, it has been more consistent in the years since she met Greene than it ever was. If it works for Oprah, it can work for you!
