HAMPTONS DIET

The Hamptons Diet is not just for the elegant vacationer- Dr. Fred Pescatore, a former medical director at the Atkins Diet Center formulated his own version of a low-carb diet that advocates the use of heart-healthy fats. Endorsed by many Hollywood celebrities, this diet involves eating lean and healthy proteins and supplements. Macadamia nut oil is touted as a primary ingredient in the meal plan.

Foods Emphasized: Macadamia nut oil, chicken, almonds, olive oil, avocadoes, fish, lean meats

Foods Discouraged: Carbohydrates

Premise and Guidelines: Named after the luxury New York holiday destination for the celebutants and the wealthy, the Hamptons Diet is a low-calorie and low-carbohydrate diet that gets you ready for hanging with the jet-set. This weight-loss diet follows the typical low-carb / Atkins formula but includes macadamia nut oil as a secret weight loss ingredient.

Like other low-carb diets, you are to limit your daily carb intake, and take a Mediterranean approach to dieting by eating heart-healthy fats. Of particular focus is the consumption of monounsaturated fats and fish. The amount of weight you need to drop can change the allowable carbohydrate content you may consume. Other than the restriction on carbohydrates, this diet does not prohibit any particular food items, nor does it restrict portion sizes. It is not surprising that moderate alcohol consumption is permitted - otherwise, Hamptonites would be banned from drinking champagne! This diet does encourage eating lots of vegetables and participating in moderate exercise. Macadamia oil and organic foods can be expensive, but if you’re going along with the Hamptons theme, money is no object.
