ICE CREAM DIET
Also known by the Magazine Diet, The Ice Cream Diet sounds too good to be true, and perhaps it is. Surprisingly created by Prevention, a top-selling health magazine, it encourages eating a scoop of ice cream each day. There is a caveat, though; you may only indulge in the scoop if you stayed within your regimented calorie intake for the day. Our apologies for disappointing the excited readers who thought that this was a mono-diet of only ice cream. The magazine stresses moderation, and this does not allow over 1500 calories each day.
Foods Emphasized: Most foods allowed, with caloric intake 1500 calories or less to get the rewarding scoop
Foods Restricted: Only calories are restricted, not foods
Premise and Guidelines: It’s difficult to believe that this weight loss plan was actually created by a well known health and fitness magazine, but the name is slightly deceiving. By simply following the Ice Cream Diet guidelines, you can lose 10-30 pounds within a short period of time. To get these results; however, you are required to stay within your calorie budget. According to the magazine, research shows that it may actually melt fat away when eaten as part of a healthy diet.
The diet defines a scoop as 1 1 cups of ice cream, which is extremely generous for a weight-loss regimen. If you overeat, you are not allowed your special scoop afterwards. There is no emphasis on exercise in the diet, which leads to the conclusion that it is not very well balanced. The commentary on this diet is that it is sensible and simple. Most experts agree that the cause of weight loss while on the diet is only due to the calorie restriction, which has already factored in the consumption of the daily ice cream scoop.
This diet is appealing, but it may not be as nutritionally sound as one would hope. Yes, ice cream contains milk and calcium, and may reduce cravings for worse snacks, but the average ice cream is still high in sugar and fat. It isn’t recommended to be consumed each day.
Calcium, the ingredient most likely influencing any weight loss more out of all the ice cream components, is readily available in supplement form or other foods. Besides the fact that a daily digging into the ice cream container is temptation at its worst, there are other ways to reward a person for adhering to their caloric intake, even frozen yogurt or soy-based product would be a healthier option.
