JUICE DIET

The Liquid Juice Diet is fairly self-explanatory. The origins of this diet are not certain, as there are many variations of liquid dieting (juice fasts, liquid supplement fasts, etc.). The Liquid Juice Diet is liquid-only; dieters must ‘drink’ all meals for 5-7 days. At the end of the liquid diet, you may slowly resume eating solid foods. If you are prepared to eat through a straw for up to a week, you may have the willpower to complete this diet!

Foods Emphasized: Juice and water

Foods Discouraged: Solid foods

Premise and Guidelines: This diet is only meant to be followed short-term for a quick weight-loss strategy. Originally, juice diets were concocted for detoxification purposes, as adherents believed juice fasting rids the body of toxins and unnatural chemicals. This liquid diet lasts for five to seven days, and allows fruit juices (preferably fresh and organic), tea, and water (purest water available). This type of strict regimen may be hard for some to swallow, literally! If it seems unrealistic and unachievable in your lifestyle, it probably is not the best diet for you. Expectedly, exercise is not a part of this diet since excessive physical activity of any type will be harder than usual and your energy level will be lower than what it was. Since liquid diets don’t provide much daily nutrition requirements, you may feel quite lethargic during the diet span.

Any version of liquid diets, juice fasts, or water diets will be least effective for long-term results. Most of the weight lost is ‘water weight’ and since these diets lack a strategy for maintenance, you will most likely gain a lot of your lost pounds back. Critics respond that these liquid diets rarely contain enough calories, fat or protein to be substantial. Although there may be some antioxidants and vitamins in the juice, it would be healthier to obtain from fresh fruits and vegetables.
