NEANDERTHIN

Full Name: It seems that dieters and nutritionists will use inspiration of all types to come up with an effective diet. With the Neanderthin Diet, inspiration reaches back thousands of years! This pre-industrial diet was written by Ray Audette, a diabetic who found this diet stabilizing to his blood sugar levels. He studied Paleolithic Nutrition and applied his research to this new way of eating. He claims we can eat like cavemen to achieve lean and strong bodies. The diet is a Hunter-gatherer meal plan and enlists dieters to eat only foods that were consumed by cavemen.

Foods Emphasized: Fruits, vegetables, honey, nuts, eggs, meat, and fish

Foods Discouraged: Grains, pasta, rice, beans, and dairy

Premise and Guidelines: Since our prehistoric counterparts aren’t around to tell us personally, we will have to trust Audette on the fact that cavemen weren't fat. This diet is based on the theory that we should only eat unprocessed foods in their most natural state as were eaten during the Paleolithic age. Essentially, the Neanderthin Diet is low-carbohydrate, eliminating all processed foods. Any foods consumed should have as minimal processing. The Neanderthin Diet does not count calories and portions are not restricted. As long as you eat from the accepted list of foods, you may have as much as you'd like. Fruits are forbidden during the winter months, as it may cause weight gain. The premise behind this is that it wouldn’t have been agriculturally available to cavemen at this season, and therefore, our bodies will not be prepared to metabolize it properly. Eating meat is encouraged at any time, and it is recommended to order fresh meats via express postal options. According to Audette, this is the closest you can get to hunting for your own meat without actually doing so. This could be expensive, and the diet in general is somewhat restrictive and socially impairing.
