OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS

Overeaters Anonymous is a non-profit organization that provides a 12 step program for compulsive overeaters. It is aimed at those who want to lose weight in a healthy manner and recover from compulsive overeating.

Foods Emphasized: Any; focus is eating less

Foods Discouraged: None; focus is eating less

Premise and Guidelines: Overeaters Anonymous focuses on support rather than dieting. There are no fees and meetings are available in person, online and by phone. This program is not for those who are looking for a strict diet to follow or need to know what foods are good or bad. Overeaters Anonymous does not provide weight loss tips or diet plans.

Overeater Anonymous encourages participants to not overeat one day at a time. They believe that through support, participants can control their compulsions to overeat. The program offers emotional support and encouragement. The 12 step program encourages members to confront their lifestyle and eating habits and believe that they can change the bad aspects.

The program is very private. Participants do not even need to be seen in person to partake in the program. New members are also able to gain mentors in other successful members or sponsors to help them through difficult times.
