PERRICONE DIET
Dr. Nicholas Perricone has become an authoritative figure in the skincare and beauty industry and now he has combined the two fields with his Perricone Weight-Loss Diet. Dr. Perricone is a dermatologist who advocates a low-carb diet supplemented by nutritional add-ons- available, of course, through his company.
Foods Emphasized: Salmon, blueberries, vegetables
Foods Discouraged: Sugar, pasta, bananas, bread, potatoes, and flour
Premise and Guidelines: Originally, Dr. Perricone set out to help prevent wrinkles via a special diet, but weight loss turned out to be a secondary result. The Perricone Diet is a restrictive weight-loss diet limiting the amount of saturated fats, refined sugars, and high glycemic carbs that one can eat, while increasing lean protein and essential fats such as salmon.
The diet also recommends over 25 different supplements that are to be taken every day. These supplements are alpha lipoic acid, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12, folate, biotin, vitamin C, vitamin C ester, vitamin E, calcium, chromium, magnesium, selenium, l -carnitine, acetyl l -carnitine, coenzyme Q10, l -glutamine, omega-3 fatty acids, grape seed extract, gamma linoleic acid and turmeric.
Perricone believes that the wrong foods are responsible for inflammation of the body, which can contribute to wrinkles, acne and other skin conditions. By making the right food choices and taking the appropriate supplements daily, aging and weight gain can be staved off.
The results look extremely promising and desirable. The diet can be expensive; however, because it requires that you purchase supplements created by Dr. Perricone. There is also no solid research or scientific studies to directly correlate or support the postulations made by Dr. Perricone. Additionally, because it is a restrictive-type diet, it will be harder to maintain long-term.
