SUZANNE SOMMERS

TV diva Suzanne Somers is now the proud author of over 8 dieting cookbooks on the market, and her diet is appropriately named ‘Somersizing’. Suzanne’s answer to healthy eating and weight-loss? Eating specific foods in the right combinations, and dumping sugar and carbohydrates for protein and fats. The diet eliminates what Somers calls ‘funky foods’; alcohol and rice are two.

Foods Emphasized: Most fruits and vegetables, meats, seafood, butter and cream

Foods Restricted: Dairy products, alcohol, rice, potatoes, whole milk, nuts, soy foods and sweets

Premise and Guidelines: Suzanne Somers' diet is based on the principle of specific food combinations that she created. She claims by eating the right foods in proper combinations, metabolism will increase, hormone levels balance and fat burns at a faster rate. Like its Food Combination sister, Somers does not advocate eating carbs with proteins or fats. Vegetables can be combined with any food type. She claims that ‘funky foods’ such as sweets/sugary snacks, potatoes, whole milk, and nuts should be eliminated altogether. Funky foods are basically high-carbohydrate foods. Dairy is almost completely restricted, but low-fat options can be made in moderation. The "Seven Easy Steps to Somersizing" detail these food combination rules for subscribers of her diet.

The Suzanne Somers diet consists of two phases. The first or dieting phase, carbs are strictly limited to only moderate amounts of low-carbohyrate selections. The so-called funky foods are eliminated from the diet at this point. The second, or maintenance, phase allows a few carbs while maintaining exercise and food combination principles.

There are some great positives to the Suzanne Somers diet; it’s easy to follow and you won’t feel as though you are starving or hungry. Also, there isn’t any restriction on calorie intake or portion quantities. The only thing that you must be mindful of is the type of foods you are eating and how they will combine with other food options. You should also never skip meals, and get regular exercise.

This diet does not differ much from any other low-carb/food combination diet, but it does have a famous face attached, which lends an air of legitimacy to it.
