THE LONGEVITY DIET

The Longevity Diet was created by Brian Delany and Lisa Walford of the Marlowe & Company in 2005. This diet plan contains no strict meal plan, but rather suggests a highly reduced calorie diet. They propose that consuming fewer calories is the only way to slow the aging process and maintain a young vitality.

Foods Emphasized: Healthy fats like olive and canola oil, fruits and vegetables, whole grain, and calcium

Foods Discouraged: High calorie foods

Premise and Guidelines: The Longevity Diet is based on studies performed with lab mice. The conclusion is that a reduced calorie diet is the only way to maintain peak energy. There is no meal plan to follow, only the recommendation of healthy fats, fruits and vegetables, whole grain and calcium. No specific amount is given, but the diet explains that the less amount of food eaten, the better.

The Longevity Diet promotes calorie restriction, which can negatively affect the body. It is healthy to be aware of calorie intake but calorie restriction is practicing poor health. This diet simply suggests that the diet concludes in slowing the aging process, but the evidence that this is the only way is false. It is important to not fall victim to eating disorders, which is border line with this diet. The body requires essential nutrients; depriving the body of these can be harmful.
